Philipp Kaiser

*1972, lives and works in Los Angeles

Philipp Kaiser was curator at the Museum for Contemporary Art in Basel (2001-2007). Since spring 2007 he has worked as Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA). 2012-2014 he was director of Museum Ludwig in Cologne.

He has organized exhibitions with works by Louise Lawler, Christian Philipp Müller, Simon Starling, Johanna Billing, Bruce Nauman, Jack Goldstein and Oscar Tuazon and curated vast thematic exhibitions, such as   "Flashback. A Revision of Art of the 1980s" (Basel, 2005), "Index - Conceptualism in California" (L.A. 2008), "Ends of the Earth: Land Art to 1974" (L.A. and Munich, 2012), together with co-curator Miwon Kwon and "Not Yet Titled" (Köln 2013), an exhibition displaying the Ludwig Collection.

In addition to his curatorial work, he has published numerous texts about contemporary art in catalogues and art journals and taught courses at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).
